FACE EATERS (SHORT FILM SCREENPLAY DRAFT 1)

 

EXT. A CAMPSITE- NIGHT

The campsite consists of two tents, a burned out campfire in the middle, and multiple hammocks and coolers- a typical camping ground. It's solemn...

Then there's a noise. A low and slow click. It's not in the campsite, but it's not far either.

INT. A TENT.

GUY sits up straight. His face shows that his heart is racing. After a couple seconds his breathing slows and he lays his head back down.

The click fills the empty campsite once more- this time directly in it.

Guy sits up again, shaking and breathing heavily.

GUY

Jed is that you? Stop trying to mess with me, man.

Something sounds like its destroying the campsite. The click gets louder and louder.

GUY

What's happening? Jed? Lisa? Marv?

Guy grabs the flashlight next to him and flips it on. The beam shoots at the mesh door of the tent revealing the shadow of a creature. It vanishes.

GUY

A freaking Raccoon?

Guy waits a minute in the tent. He slowly reaches for the zipper and anxiously begins opening it-

EXT. A CAMPSITE- NIGHT

Guy crawls out and quickly stands up sweeping the light in a circle. The other tent is destroyed.

The light shines on a sleeping bag next to the firepit

GUY

(in a whisper)

Jed? Are you awake?

Nothing

GUY

Jed??

He comes closer to the sleeping bag. His hand slowly reaches for the flap that is covering his friend's face. He rips it off like a bandaid.

Guy instantly falls onto his butt and begins to SCREAM!

Inside in the sleeping bag is a faceless Jed- bloody and disturbing.

Guy backs up, still screaming at the bloody mess, until his back is pressed up against a tree. As soon as he hits the tree he turns to his left and pressed up against the tree is another camper- faceless.

The vicious, terrifying click begins coming again. Guy covers his mouth and shuts his eyes. He doesn't want to scream and he doesn't want to see his dead friend next to him.

The sound dies down. It's quiet. He opens his eyes. Then he hears the sound coming from the tree above him. He looks up, it goes from a click to a chilling screech. He screams.

SLAM TO BLACK.

FACE EATERS

OPEN

EXT. A ROAD ENTERING A MAINE FORREST- SUNSET

A single car drives along the road. It'll be dark soon.

INT. THE CAR

Five friends are in the vehicle. Derek and Tom are in the backseat with Lindsay between them. The couple, Chad and Anna sit in the front. We come into the middle of a conversation.

DEREK

No, there's no way a Sasquatch could beat a bear.

TOM

What're you talking about? Bigfoot could smash a bear with a rock!

DEREK

I'm just saying I would rather run into a Sasquatch than a bear.

LINDSAY

Would you guys cut it out! You argue over the dumbest things.

CHAD

Yeah would you cut it out. We are almost there. We are on this trip for a good time and I don't want your stupid arguments to ruin it.

He holds up Anna's hand and kisses it.

CHAD

Plus, we have some romantic stuff planned and you guys are killing the mood.

Anna gives a school girl giggle.

ANNA

Oh, I love you, Chad.

CHAD

I love you, Anna.

ANNA

I love you more.

CHAD

No, I love you more.

They go back and forth for a second until..

THE BACKSEAT

Cut it out. Your're gross. Crap you're making me throw up.

Anna and Chad look at each other all gewwy eyed.

GPS

Turn right onto Forrest Road 337 and your destination will be on the right.

DEREK

Oh look there it is.

The car begins driving up to a small cabin.

LINDSAY

It's deeper in than I thought it would be.

TOM

(mockingly)

Awww is Lindsay scared.

LINDSAY

No, I just hate nature.

The camera pans into the forest line where lays a faceless hiker.

EXT. OUTSIDE THE CABIN- MOMENTS LATER

The group is unpacking all their stuff from the car and walking up to the cabin. Chad and Anna are holding hands. Tom and Derek are rough housing up; being idiots.

As Lindsay is throwing her backpack over her shoulder she hears a clicking sound coming from the tree's around her.

She stops and listens.

ANNA

(from the porch)

Are you coming Lindsay?

LINDSAY

Yes, sorry. Thought I heard something.

She cuts the trunk and begins walking to the cabin.

LINDSAY

Probably just cicada.

INT. CABIN- MOMENTS LATER.

ANNA

Okay so I was thinking, Derek and Tom you guys have the bunk beds in the hallway. Chad and I will get the bedroom and Lindsay, you get the pull out couch. Does that work for everyone?

DEREK

Only if I get the top.

TOM

Screw you, man. You're obviously more of a bottom.

DEREK

You think you're so smart.

They jack around as the go to throw their stuff into their beds.

CHAD

Oh yall look the renters rule book.

He acts as if he's reading it.

CHAD

Yadda yadda blah blah blah. Haha! Look here. Due to recent events, park enforcement ask that all people stay inside the cabin at night. Due to some wildlife it's dangerous to be out. If you witness anything strange call the park Ranger office at 207-555-9044

ANNA

You hear that boys. Your Sasquatch might get you.

DEREK

More like a bear!

Everybody laughs.

INT. CABIN- NIGHT TIME

Everybody is sitting around the living room. Lindsay is staring out the window.

CHAD

...I shot it right between the eyes and it didn't go down. My dad was freaking out, I was freaking out. He was yelling like "shoot it again! Shoot it again!" So I cock it back and just as I'm about to pull the trigger it runs into a tree and it's brains...

ANNA

Stop that's gross! I don't want to hear anymore.

TOM

No keep going! What happened.

DEREK

Yeah did it's brains explode all over?

TOM

Did you get another shot in?

ANNA

Noooooo!

TOM

Oh come on! It's just a deer story.

ANNA

No please, stop. I hate that. Lindsay, back me up here.

Lindsay is watching out the window still not paying any attention.

Outside there's something. A tree branch moves.

Lindsay watches intently.

Back outside the clicking noise begins. There's a creature by the tree outside. As the camera zooms in the clicking gets louder. Then..

ANNA

Lindsay!

Lindsay jumps- startled out of her train of thought. The clicking is no longer hearable.

ANNA

Hunting stories are gross right?

LINDSAY

Gosh yes completely gross.

CHAD

You okay? You seem a little worried.

LINDSAY

I'm fine. I was just watching an animal outside.

TOM

What type!

LINDSAY

I couldn't tell.

Derek gets up off the floor where he is sitting and peaks out the window over her shoulder.

DEREK

Oh wow!

ANNA

Is there something out there?

DEREK

Yes, It looks like a..

Derek screams and jumps back. Everybody else freaks out. Chad stands up to look outside.

DEREK

...absolutely nothing.

Chad slugs him in the arm.

CHAD

Not funny, dude.

TOM

(the only one laughing)

That's freaking hilarious!

They highfive.

DEREK

In all seriousness though, is anyone else bored of sitting around listening to stories.

Everybody kind of agrees.

TOM

Oh I know! I have a deck of cards out in the car. We can play some strip poker.

ANNA

Absolutely not.

DEREK

I think that's a great idea.

ANNA

I'm not taking my clothes off for anyone.

8.

TOM

Do you always have to be a buzz kill.

CHAD

I think playing cards could be fun.

ANNA

Chad! I am not stripping for them.

CHAD

I said cards, not taking off clothes.

(to Tom)

If you get the cards I'd be down for some poker. Just normal poker.

TOM

Fine, Fine.

He starts toward the door.

LINDSAY

Wait! The book said it was dangerous to go outside at night!

TOM

It's only for a second. The cars right there. I'll be totally fine.

LINDSAY

Just be careful.

The door slams before she can even finish the sentence.

There's a beat as they all watch the door.

DEREK

So, what type of snacks did we bring.

ANNA

Oh my gosh, I bought this new type of oreos that-

The sound drowns out as the camera looks to Lindsay face and the clicking can be heard.

EXT. OUTSIDE THE CABIN- SAME

Tom is stepping off the porch singing some rock song. He unlocks the door and begins searching through the backseat.

9.

Something dashes behind him.

He pulls his head out of the car and looks around. He see's nothing, shrugs, then goes back to searching.

The clicking noise begins louder. A Face-eater comes from the sky and lands behind him- standing on two legs, taller than the average human. Tom doesn't notice. However, the clicking noise coming from the face-eater is extremely loud.

Tom feels it sneaking up behind him.

TOM

Derek you can't scare me. If you touch me, I'm going to kick you in the balls.

The Face-eater is directly behind him. It's noise stops.

Tom finds the cards and turns around.

TOM

Alright, Derek, you moron...

Tom looks up at the creature

The camera starts at the feet of the two and tilts up to their heads.

The Face-eater is massive in size. It has two giant wings that fall to it's calves. It's green with a scale like texture. It has claws for hands. In summary it looks like a humanoid locust.

Tom can't get a word out. Just as he's about to scream the Face-eater grabs his head, slams him onto the car, and begins eating his face.

INT. THE CABIN- MINUTES LATER

Everybody is having a good time.

All of a sudden the car alarm begins going off.

ANNA

What could that idiot possibly be doing.

CHAD

Obviously something stupid.

10.

Just before the four can look out the window, through the window we see the Face-eater fly into the air with Tom's body.

The four look out the window.

DEREK

Well where the heck is he?

CHAD

Can he do one thing without messing around?

Chad storms to the door of the cabin.

EXT/INT. THE PORCH

Chad opens the door and steps out.

CHAD

Tom, stop your screwing around!

He steps down the steps and just as he does Tom's lifeless body falls right in front of him.

CHAD

Wha-wha-wha

Back in the cabin the rest of the group comes to the door at his screams.

ANNA

Chad!?

Chad turns to run back into the cabin.

CHAD

Get back in the cabin!

Before he can make it up the steps; the Face-eater lands behind him. It grabs Chad and indulges on his head in front of everyone.

Anna tries to run out the door but Derek grabs her. Lindsay slams the door and locks it.

ANNA

No let me out there! It has Chad!

DEREK

Didn't you see what happened! It ate his head!

11.

Anna collapses into a mess on the floor; sobbing.

LINDSAY

What was that thing?

DEREK

Freaking huge.

BAM, Something hits the window and shatters it. It's Chad's faceless head.

LINDSAY

Oh my God!!

Lindsay runs to the couch to grab a blanket and throw it over the head.

LINDSAY

Help me with this.

She's grabbing a shelf from the wall and pushing it to the window. Derek helps her. Lindsay turns from the shelf and starts flipping through the rulebook.

DEREK

What're you doing?

She finishes on one page and begins dialing on her cell phone.

LINDSAY

I'm calling the park Ranger Nelson. We need them to come out here.

The phone beeps. Her call has failed.

Derek is going around the cabin making sure everything is locked and barricading the doors.

The call keeps failing.

LINDSAY

Would you just work!

The phone finally starts ringing in.

LINDSAY

Thank God.

RANGER NELSON

(from the phone speaker)

Hello?

LINDSAY

Oh my God. We need your help. This this thing came from the sky. It killed our friends.

RANGER NELSON

Ma'am I need you to calm down.

LINDSAY

We are in cabin 12. Something killed two of our friends.

RANGER NELSON

(choppy)

Hello? Is anybody there?

The call fails.

LINDSAY

You've got to be kidding me.

Anna is still a mess on the floor.

LINDSAY

Come here.

They wrap their arms around each other.

CUT TO:

INT. THE CABIN LIVING ROOM- LATER THAT NIGHT.

The remaining 3 are sitting in the living room. Anna has her head in Lindsay's lap for comfort. They look like the adrenaline from the events has worn off.

Car lights shine from the crack of the window.

Derek gets up to investigate.

DEREK

It's the Ranger Nelson!

EXT. OUTSIDE THE CABIN- SAME

A boot steps out of the large truck. A cigarette sits between the lips of a beard covered face. It's dark, and there's only a silhouette of the Ranger Nelson.

Lindsay opens the door.

LINDSAY

Get in here! Hurry!

RANGER NELSON

Stay in the house.

The clicking noise begins. The Ranger Nelson cocks a shotgun he got from his truck.

A Face-eater lands in between Ranger Nelson and the house. Ranger Nelson raises the gun. At his the Face-eater fly's toward him, but only gets a few feet before the Ranger Nelson shoots it's bug head off.

Smoke rises off the gun. The three campers stand in the doorway- looking shocked. Ranger Nelson, a man's man- who takes nothing from no one, slowly walks to the door with the shotgun over his shoulder. He throws his cigarette out onto the now faceless Face-eater.

Lindsay, Anne, and Derek step out onto the porch to greet him.

RANGER NELSON

Get back in there. It's dangerous.

ANNE

But you killed it.

RANGER NELSON.

You think that's the only one? Listen.

The sound of multiple clicking can be heard, near and far.

Ranger Nelson walks past them into the house.

RANGER NELSON

Come now. Shut the door and block it.

INT. THE CABIN KITCHEN.

Anna, Derek, and Lindsay watch Ranger Nelson as he sharpens his knife.

Beat.

ANNA

Well?

RANGER NELSON

Well what?

ANNA

Are you going to get us out of here?

RANGER NELSON

(laughs a bit)

Get you out of here? Unfortunately that won't be happening tonight. We got to wait it out till morning.

DEREK

What the heck do you mean?

RANGER NELSON

What I mean is, if we go out there tonight we are going to die. Didn't you hear all of them? They're pissed.

ANNA

That's crap! We called you for help!

LINDSAY

Anna!

RANGER NELSON

Look here little missy, I am here for help. And the help says wait. Till. Morning. Didn't yall read the rules anyways? It specifically says don't go out in the dark.

LINDSAY

Well no one warned us about those things! What the hell are they?

RANGER NELSON

They're like any other wild life creature you're not supposed to mess with. You don't see us warning you about bears now do you?

(he pauses for a second)

Well we've been calling them Face-eaters. We don't exactly know what they're called, but they came here at the beginning of the summer and have been living here since. We've tried to keep it on the down low because the town thrives off of the tourists coming to camp.

DEREK

So you just haven't told anyone because it would be a financial inconvenience?

RANGER NELSON

It wasn't my call. It was the mayor's. I've been doing my part. I go out hunting for them everyday. Take down at least 3 or 4.

LINDSAY

So why faces?

RANGER NELSON

Pardon?

LINDSAY

Why do they eat the faces?

RANGER NELSON

They're not exactly after people's faces. No. They're after the brains. They tear off the face so they can suck the brain out from the nose and eyes socket.

ANNA

Oh my gosh

She turns and begins throwing up in the trash can

RANGER NELSON

It's not just people either. In the past week I've come across more than a dozen deer and other animals that have become food to the dang things.

*bang bang bang*, something hits the walls and roof all over the cabin.

DEREK

What's happening?

RANGER NELSON

I told you, they're pissed and they're hungry. Their food killed their friend so now they want revenge.

The thumping continues.

Anna suddenly begins sobbing.

16.

ANNA

(through messy crying)

I don't want to die. They already killed Chad. We were suppose to get married and have babies.

RANGER NELSON

Will somebody control her!

LINDSAY

Anna. Hey it's going to be okay. We will get out of here alive. Ranger Nelson is going to help us.

Anna is listening. Her cries grow louder. Along with the cries so does the attacks to the cabin.

RANGER NELSON

She needs to shut up! She's triggering the Face-eaters.

LINDSAY

Anna! Anna! Listen to me.

Anna is wailing.

Lindsay slaps her. Anna stops crying to look at her.

LINDSAY

If you want us to survive you have to hold it together.

The Face-eaters stop.

RANGER NELSON

Finally peace and quiet.

A Face-eater smashes through a window and it's barricade.

DEREK

No!

The Face-eater flies through the cabin pinning Derek against the wall. Derek is holding it back.

Ranger Nelson has his gun held up.

 

ANNA

Shoot it!

 

LINDSAY

What are you waiting for?

17.

RANGER NELSON

If I shoot I kill your friend!

Without hesitation Lindsay takes a knife from the counter and stabs the Face-eater in the side.

It screeches and flies through the window it came from with Derek in it's claws.

LINDSAY

No, Derek!

Ranger Nelson quickly rushes over to push the couch vertically against the window.

ANNA

Why'd it take him?

RANGER NELSON

I've seen this a couple times before. My guess is, it takes food back to it's young.

ANNA

Then we have to go after it!

RANGER NELSON

Your friend will be long gone by the time we get to him.

ANNA

We have to try! I don't want to lose all of my friends.

RANGER NELSON

I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do.

LINDSAY

Wait. She might be onto something though! We could follow it back. Every bug has a lair of some sort. Spiders have webs, fly's have sacks. We can find it and kill them off from the source.

RANGER NELSON

That's crazy.

LINDSAY

But think about it. We could get rid of the problem.

18.

Ranger Nelson pauses for a moment, scratches his beard then sighs.

RANGER NELSON

Are you sure you're up for it? It's really dangerous. You've seen those things.

LINDSAY

I understand, but if we can get our friend back, plus kill these S.O. B's then I'm all for it.

RANGER NELSON

What about your friend? We could probably leave her at the Ranger Nelson's cabin.

ANNA

No! I'm coming with. I want to watch them burn.

Ranger Nelson nods at them.

RANGER NELSON

Well the three of us aren't going to survive alone. Especially with the limited resources we've got.

He looks at the door.

RANGER NELSON

We're going to have to make a break for the truck. It's right there we just run fast. From there we will high tail it to the station. I'll call in back up to meet us there and we will make a plan there. Sound good?

Both girls nod.

INT. THE CABIN- MOMENTS LATER

Ranger Nelson peaks out the door. He has his shotgun in hand.

Outside there are 3 Face-eaters. One on the roof of the truck, one walking around, and another licking clean Chad's body.

RANGER NELSON

I count three. I'm sure there are more nearby.Wait till these one's clear our path and we will bolt for it.

19.

Ranger Nelson watches for a second.

The Face-eater on the truck flies off camera.

RANGER NELSON

Okay, Now!

EXT. OUTSIDE THE CABIN- SAME

The front door bolts open. The three are running out toward the truck. Ranger Nelson puts a shot through the Face-eater in front of them. They're running quick. Lindsay and Ranger Nelson make it to the truck. But Anna had stopped by Chad's body.

ANNA

Oh my gosh

(she begins crying)

LINDSAY

Come on, Anna!

Anna bends down to pick something up.

ANNA

This fell out of Chad's pocket.

(sobbing)

It's an engagement ring. He was going to propose this weekend.

RANGER NELSON

We don't have time for that. Come on!

ANNA

She puts the ring on her finger, admiring it for a second.

LINDSAY

Oh God.

ANNA

Look, it's beautiful.

A Face-eater lands and rips her face off. It flings her brain into the air and swallows catches it in its mouth- like a dog with a steak.

RANGER NELSON

Get in truck!

20.

They both rush to open the doors and get in.

Ranger Nelson peals out from the cabin. Multiple Face-eaters follow as he drives down the road. He drives fast enough to leave them in the dust.

INT. THE TRUCK ON THE FOREST ROAD- MOMENTS LATER

RANGER NELSON

I'm sorry about your friends.

Lindsay looks like she has been crying. She takes a deep breath and stares at the Ranger Nelson for a second.

LINDSAY

Thank you.

Ranger Nelson look over at her.

RANGER NELSON

I know how you feel right now. These dang things have taken everything from you. You hate them.

He takes a picture off the dashboard and hands it to her. It's a picture of Guy from the beginning of the movie.

RANGER NELSON

That's my son. Him and his friends were out here camping. That was the first sighting of the freaking things.

LINDSAY

Did he make it out alive?

Ranger Nelson pauses for a minute.

RANGER NELSON

No. None of them did.

She hands the picture back to him.

RANGER NELSON

Since then I've dedicated every waking moment to getting rid of these things. They wanted me to take time off. Instead, I've been out here everyday, taking them out one by one.

LINDSAY

They're bugs though. It's hard to exterminate them all.

RANGER NELSON

Exactly. That's why I like your plan so much. They must have a hive, where they reproduce.

Lindsay nods her head then looks out the window.

EXT. THE RANGER NELSONS LODGE

The truck pulls up to a large wooden lodge. A spotlight follows them all the way up. Two park Ranger run outside as Lindsay and Ranger Nelson step out of the vehicle. The park rangers have their guns in the air, searching for any sign of a Face-eater.

RANGER NICK

Nelson what's this suicide mission you're talking about?

Nelson, marches his way up to the lodge, Lindsay following quickly behind.

RANGER NELSON

We will talk about it more inside.

INT. NELSON'S OFFICE IN THE LODGE- MOMENTS LATER.

Four Park Rangers (Nick, Shay, Stanley and Rodgers) and Lindsay stand facing Nelson. They're half way through the briefing.

NICK

You're crazy if you think we're going to let you go through with this, let alone drag us along.

All of the rangers agree.

RANGER NELSON

I would never force any of you to do it. I'm simply asking! I know what you all have to lose. You have families, children, dreams. But me, I've got nothing left. They took my only child. The only thing I had. I can't promise you we will all make it out alive.But I can promise you we will be doing everyone an honest favor.

Everyone is quiet for a second.

SHAY

I'm in. If you're so sure of this then I can trust it.

STANLEY

Me too. I've got your back Nelson!

RODGERS

Heck, I might as well. I have nothing to lose. As long as you're doing the paper work on it.

Nelson gives a short laugh.

Nick looks at them all.

NICK

I'm sorry I can't. My kids wouldn't survive without me.

RANGER NELSON

I understand.

Everyone nods their heads at him to confirm they're okay with it.

SHAY

Well, Nelson. What's the plan?

MOMENTS LATER

The entire group huddles around a table. A map of the forest is laid out.

RANGER NELSON

(He's circling and pointing things out as he speaks)

I've noticed a large population of the Face-eaters in this northwest corner of the forest here. There's a small cave here, so I'm assuming that's where their nest is. It's probably not wise to go in guns blazing so I'm thinking we sneak in. We wait till morning when they're asleep.

23.

RODGERS

I say we go in there and dump gasoline, light a match, and get the hell out of there.

RANGER NELSON

I thought that too, but we can't risk a forest fire. I'm thinking we have to go in there with a fight. We catch them off guard, we are sure to win.

STANLEY

We're sure to be outnumbered.

RANGER NELSON

It's not too late to back out.

STANLEY

Oh, I'm coming with. I'm just saying, we've had over a hundred of these around. Do you think we can take that much? Plus more? The four of us?

LINDSAY

Five. There's five of us.

STANLEY

Oh, do you know how to fire a gun, girl? Have you seen what we are up against?

LINDSAY

I can learn. They're just a bug. They squash like one too.

RANGER NELSON

Believe in her. She's been through a lot tonight and she's still standing. She's got one heck of a backbone.

(then)

We leave at sunrise. Get some rest then load up.

INT. LODGE- SUNRISE

Everybody, including Lindsay puts on a park ranger uniform. They load up hunting rifles and put knives in their boots.

Ranger Nelson loads shells into his shotgun as Lindsay watches.

24.

RANGER NELSON

You sure you can do this?

LINDSAY

One-hundred percent.

Ranger Nelson cocks the gun. He stands up and puts it in her arms, standing behind her.

RANGER NELSON

(referring to the gun- teaching her to use it)

As soon as you see one of those things, you take this, point it at them and pull the trigger. Pull this back and fire again. Understand?

LINDSAY

Yes.

RANGER NELSON

There's going to be a little kick back so hold it nice and tight.

LINDSAY

Okay.

Shay enters, knocking on the door frame.

SHAY

The trucks loaded. You ready?

Ranger Nelson puts the gun in Lindsay's hands and picks up a rifle.

RANGER NELSON

Let's go.

EXT. FOREST ROAD- MOMENTS LATER

The entire group is in the truck. Rodgers drives, Ranger Nelson is in the front. Shay, Lindsay, and Stanley sit in the bed. A milk crate full of bottles clinks around.

LINDSAY

What's in there?

Stanley uncovers it and picks up a glass bottle. It's half full and has a rag hanging out.

25.

STANLEY

In case worse comes to, I brought a little extra fire power.

Ranger Nelson slides open the back window.

RANGER NELSON

Alright all, we are a quarter mile out. We are going to stop a few yards from the cave and walk.

EXT. OUTSIDE THE CAVE- MOMENTS LATER.

The truck pulls up. Everybody gets out of the truck. Stanley points to a nearby tree. Hanging on it is a giant shredded exoskeleton of one of the Face-eaters.

STANLEY

That's disgusting.

LINDSAY

Look they're all over the tree's.

Hanging around most of the tree's are the exoskeletons. Ranger Nelson walks over and smashes one.

RANGER NELSON

It's just the shell. Let's move it.

They move to the entrance of the cave. They look like under trained navy seals.

RANGER NELSON

Alright, Shay you stay out here and guard the entrance, shoot any ugly thing that tries to go in or out. Keep your walkie on. If you see anything let me know.

SHAY

Understood.

RANGER NELSON

Everyone else, you're with me.

INT. THE CAVE

It's dark. The teams flashlights beam around the walls. It seems as if something is watching them.

26.

RANGER NELSON

Keep moving. It's only a tad deeper.

They walk a little way until they come across hundred of exoskeletons lining the wall.

STANLEY

I think we hit the hive.

RANGER NELSON

Holy heck. As soon as we see them, start firing.

LINDSAY

Do you hear that?

The sound of the clicking is faint.

RANGER NELSON

We're close to them.

Ranger Nelson takes a step and his foot slips, he begins sliding down an unexpected slope. He slides down, quickly hitting the bottom.

STANLEY

Are you okay down there?

RANGER NELSON

You're going to want to come down here!

Stanley and Lindsay look at each other.

STANLEY

Ladies first.

Lindsay rolls her eyes then throws herself down. Stanley comes down after her.

Ranger Nelson drops a flare so they can get a better look.

LINDSAY

(close up)

Oh my-

They come into a giant portion of the cave. It's filled with egg sacks- giant green, slimy sacks. They're translucent and you can see the big larva inside.

RANGER NELSON

We found what we were looking for. Let's start smashing.

27.

They begin putting their boots into the sacks and cutting into them. Slime and tiny Face-eaters fall out. They crush them like bugs.

MEANWHILE

INT. THE LODGE TOWER- SAME TIME

Nick sits in the tower looking over the forest. He begins squinting real hard at something in the sky.

He puts his binoculars up to his face. Through them he see's a massive swarm of Face-eaters.

Nick runs to a radio and begins transmitting a message.

NICK

(into radio)

Nelson! Nelson! Come in Nelson! This is Nick back at the tower.

He's having troubles reaching them, since they are underground.

NICK

Come in Nelson! Anyone?

SHAY

(in the radio)

Nick, it's shay. What seems to be the problem?

NICK

There's a swarm coming your way. I repeat. A swarm coming your way.

SHAY

Copy that!

Nick hesitates for a second, thinking over what he's about to say.

NICK

(into the radio)

I'm on my way.

Nick exits.

INT. THE CAVE

LINDSAY

There are so many of them! We've wiped out probably most of their population.

STANLEY

You guys come here!

Ranger Nelson and Lindsay run over to him. In a pile under some of the sack is a bunch of human remains.

LINDSAY

Oh dear God. That's Derek.

She puts her head into Ranger Nelson chest.

RANGER NELSON

It's okay. I'm so sorry.

Lindsay pulls away.

LINDSAY

These suckers are going to pay.

She cocks the shotgun.

CUT TO:

EXT. CAVE ENTRANCE

Shay leans against a tree. The swarm can now be heard, a massive clicking sound. Shay looks up.

SHAY

Oh dear.

She begins firing into the swarm coming down at her. She hits a few. They fall to the ground. The swarm lands on the ground, surrounding her. She continues to take a few out till she has to reload. She can't reload fast enough- a Face-eater jumps at her, knocking her down.

Shay grabs the knife out of her boot and shoves it into the Face-eaters head. She tries to get up but one pins her back down.

Before it can eat her face, there's a shot, right through the Face-eater. It leaves a massive hole. Shay quickly gets up and is greeted by Nick.

29.

SHAY

You came!

NICK

You needed my help.

Shay picks up her gun and together they start firing their guns at the Face-eaters surrounding them.

The battle is long. Nick throws down his rifle and begins firing with a pistol.

SHAY

There's too many!

NICK

I know. Run in! Warn the rest!

SHAY

Are you crazy? And leave you out here alone?

NICK

I'll be fine just go!

Shay makes a break for it. She dodges two face-eaters and runs, grabs something out of the truck, and quickly enters the cave. (exit)

Nick runs out of ammo. He resorts to using his hunting knife. He slashes one, but another comes up behind. It picks Nick up and flies into the air a few feet. Then drops him. Many Face-eaters swarm him as he hits the ground.

INT. THE CAVE, EGG SACKS- SAME

Lindsay, Stanley, and Ranger Nelson finish smashing all of the egg sacks. They gather together in the center of the cave.

LINDSAY

Holy crap. I think we got all of them.

A huge pair of beady eyes watch them from the back of the cave, in first person.

RANGER NELSON

Something feels off though. We didn't come across a single grown one.

The eyes are now on the ceiling right above them.

30.

STANLEY

Do you hear that.

There's a quiet, subtle clicking noise.

Everybody puts their backs together looking around the room.

LINDSAY

I don't see anything.

The Face-eater that was crawling round the room screeches then falls from the ceiling. It's bigger than the others. It has bigger wings, a large gaster, and long pinchers coming from it's mouth. Around it's head, it's exoskeleton creates a protective, helmet like cover.

STANLEY

Dear God the queen.

They all begin firing at it, however it's exoskeleton is stronger than the rest and bullets are only hitting the surface.

The queen rushes Stanley, picks him up and rips him in half.

RANGER NELSON

We need to get out of here. I have an idea.

Ranger Nelson shoots at it.

RANGER NELSON

Come here you big ugly thing.

The queen rushes him. As it does Ranger Nelson lights a flare which blinds it. The queen retreats for a second.

RANGER NELSON

Now! Run!

They begin bolting out of the cave.

They reach the slope they fell down. Ranger Nelson hoists Lindsay up. As she gets up she notices a figure running at her in the dark. Before she can figure out what it is, she shoots it.

LINDSAY

I shot one up here!

She helps Ranger Nelson up. They shine a light on what they think is the dead face-eater.

31.

RANGER NELSON

That's not one of them!

It's Shay. She's laying on the ground with a fist sized whole in her chest from Lindsay shooting her. In her hand one of the cocktails from the truck.

LINDSAY

Oh my gosh.

(she begins weeping)

I'm so sorry. I thought- I couldn't see. It was dark. I'm so sorry.

The swarm of Face-eaters can be heard entering the cave.

RANGER NELSON

(looking toward the entrance)

Sounds like we have other problems.

The cave begins filling with Face-eaters. Behind them, the queen crawls out of the hole.

RANGER NELSON

Crap.

Ranger Nelson picks up a the cocktail from Shay's hand.

RANGER NELSON

There's only one way you're making this out alive. So listen to me.

He throws the cocktail at the swarm.

Zoom in on the flames.

EXT. OUTSIDE THE CAVE- MOMENTS LATER.

Lindsay comes running out of the cave- alone. She left her gun in the cave as well. She looks back to see if anyone is following her.

She makes it to the truck they came in. She pulls the tarp off of the milk crate of cocktails- grabbing one.

Lindsay get's into the drivers seat and starts the truck. It begins moving toward the cave.

As it gets closer, the sound of the Face-eaters and gun shots becomes louder.

LINDSAY

You crazy S.O.B Nelson.

32.

The truck begins moving faster toward the cave. She jams it into neutral then jumps out. Lindsay tries to light the cocktail but she's shaking too much.

LINDSAY

Come on. Come on.

Finally the rag catches.

She gives one good toss and it hits the bed of the truck as it enters the cave. It explodes, making all the others explode. The truck looks like a fireball zooming into the cave.

Seconds later there's a massive explosion. The fire had caused the truck to explode inside the cave. The ground shakes as it does.

Along with a barrel of smoke- burning face-eaters begin flying out of the cave, only to make it a couple feet before dying.

Lindsay stands for a moment and watches. A couple seconds later she nods her head at the cave.

She gets in the truck Nick drove in and begins driving away.

EXT. FOREST ROAD- MOMENTS LATER

The truck comes out of the Forest and back onto the road from the beginning.

She suddenly hits the break. Down the road a few feet lands the queen- looking burned. It's missing parts of its wings and limbs. It looks close to death. It makes a quick clicking sound.

LINDSAY

This is for my friends.

Lindsay floors the gas. She completely runs over the queen and keeps driving.

In the truck she turns on her windshield wipers and gets rid of the guts that splattered.

The queen lays smashed on the road, a single wing twitching in a pile of gross guts.
