WHEN YOUR DAUGHTER TELLS YOU SHE WANTS TO BE AN ASTRONAUT
Private Notes

when your daughter tells you she wants to be an astronaut
before there are names for jobs like that
you will never insist she get her head out of the clouds
there are plenty of women born to write clichés
who will keep her grounded
you are not one of these women
when your daughter tells you she wants to be an astronaut
you will show her the constellations in her freckles
hula hoop in Saturn's rings
you will tie her tupperware helmets
for merry-go-round simulations
and trampoline launchpads
fill her sandbox with red clay
when your daughter tells you she wants to be an astronaut
she may never discover her way through the stratosphere
nor leave frozen footprints on satellites
but she will forever know the stars
in your eyes
burning bright.

The imagery of this word play and how it fits so perfectly of everything it is to be and dream of being an astronaut. Love this Andrea. -

This is so perfect. Letting a child know the sky is the limit, and the opportunities are endless, being okay with not achieving of having everything match that of a dream of seeing and achieving it all, but being okay with that, especially because your support is the light that allows them to go for it, keep going, and see the dream not just up there, but in their eyes, heart, and soul. It's so important for parents to support their children's dreams. That in itself is the dream and goal. -
This is how every mothers relationship should be with her child. Too many parents kill their children's dreams before they can even give them a try. Thanks for sharing Andrea!

Exactly the type of mother I am trying to be to my sons as well. Thank you for putting it to words.

I'm so glad you love it. I became a mother recently myself, and it's close to my heart.
