A LETTER TO MYSELF DURING HARD TIMES

Hard times bring out our true colors. They’re a test for seeing what our real essence is. It’s tempting to stop trying and lose hope when things don’t go our way. All of a sudden, we want the whole world to go to hell. It’s easy to fall into a state of apathy and depression. But what’s the point? What does that achieve? Do those attitudes solve our problems? Do they get us closer to where we want to go? Most likely not. Usually when we add negativity to a negative situation, it gets even worse. Maybe approaching these situations differently, is the key to happiness...

Try doing the opposite for once. When things go bad, spread as much love and positivity as possible. Strive to be the light in a dark room. Keep an optimistic mindset and an attitude full of hope. Fight to survive and to stay happy. Don’t let difficult moments make you feel bitter. Don’t let toxic people poison you. It’s not worth it. Most things you get held up on, don’t even matter in the end. Let go. Life is too short to waste so much time and energy on negative thoughts and actions. Nothing is forever. Find the way to enjoy the best of each moment and move on. Suffocate negativity with positive actions and emotions. If you can at least smile during hard times, you’ll always win.

In a kind of variation of this idea: don't let negative people define who you are. By responding to their negative views, you give them control.
