"...baby is almost asleep, then I'll have some time to..."

I uttered this hopeful phrase many a time as a new mom, and then ended up conking out shortly after my little one. Eventually I accepted that I just wouldn't have the time to stay up-to-date on news, entertainment, and interesting information related to my field...at least not in the way I used to.

Enter the wonderful world of podcasts. At the time, I was already listening to NPR's brilliant comedy news show, Wait...Wait...Don't Tell Me!, and decided to search out other interesting topics, including those related to my work as an editor and author of poetry and children's literature. Podcasts can make a commute feel shorter or bring the most out of a snack break. They are generally free, though many are supported by donations or their listeners using promo codes with relevant sponsors.

I only wish I knew about podcasts sooner; they would have been a great alternative to music during my morning walk or bike ride. So, here I present podcast suggestions for every type of writer. For the purpose of this list, I'm including genre specific podcasts, as opposed to those geared towards all writersa.

Biographers - Biographers International Organization interviews biographers from around the United States and across the world. If you are part of the organization, you can contact the host for a chance to be interviewed.

Bloggers - Problogger Podcast is hosted by Darren Rowse, who runs Problogger.net. You'll find tips and challenges to improve your blog and finance it.

Children's Literature - The Picurebooking Podcast shares interviews from children's book authors about how they got started and their newest works.

Comic Books - Comic Book Workshop provides discussions all about the craft of making comics.

Fiction - Story Works Round Table shares conversations about creative fiction from both the commercial and independent publishing worlds.

Nonfiction - Podlit has interviews and current news for writers and teachers of creative nonfiction.

Poetry - Poetry Off the Shelf presents readings, interviews, and research about contemporary poetry.

Script (TV/Film/Plays) - Scripts & Scribes has advice and perspectives from script writers of film, television, and theatre. It's also a writer's resource website.

Did I miss your genre or subject or do you have more podcasts to suggest? Let me know in the comments.
