we found feathers by your grave today
blue with black stripes
& white tips
we didnt think they were real
but we took them anyway
(i hope you didnt mind)

we are strangers
friends made by words on stone only
much faded
i wrote a story about you in my head
& told it to her
(i hope you didnt mind)

we walked over graves today
names with no faces
just ground & feet
i cried for couples death separated
the years carving ribs in my own heart
(i hope you didnt mind)

we kissed in the rain today
standing still
by the headstones
she tasted like laughter & bread
& was warm against me
(i hope you didnt mind)

quick rains cleansed the graves
& purged a little
of our souls
we didnt think it was real
so we forgot to bring you flowers
(i hope you didnt mind)
