THE ANSWER IS YES

The wind is strong today,

I feel it as we walk along the river,

the gusts blowing my back,

watching the choppy waves.

I am grateful for the hand that holds mine,

cocooning my palm in warm, smooth skin.

We discuss experiments and education

and by extension,

our future.

"I never thought I would end up here," I say.

"But are you glad you did?" you ask.

Of course my answer is yes.

It has always been yes

from the first time you asked a question

that changed our future,

until our last.

I consider where my futue would have brought me

if I did not have,

and though there are similarties,

the picture is much lovelier

with you in it.
